Happy Friday!

Being a Dallas resident for the past 14 years, I know that fashion is majorly important, especially for a Dallas bride’s wedding day!  If you are looking for some funky, trendy wedding fashion for your wedding ceremony or reception, I have a trendy site for you to check out to find some fashionable items for your wedding.  I am a big fan of Rue La La, an exclusive, invitation only boutique that has 48 hour sales on clothing and accessories my major brands, like Steve Madden, Spanx (yes, ladies, they sell SPANX…lol), BCBG, Escada, etc.  They send you weekly emails of the featured boutiques as well as upcoming sales that you can then purchase from during the specified timeframe.

This week, they are partnering up with The Knot for some specific wedding fashion!  They are calling the effort “The Knot presents STYLE, I Do!” I love the title.  They’re featuring various wedding gowns, reception gowns (for the bride who wants a different look for the reception), accessories and even groom/groomsmen attire that can be purchased immediately from the boutique.

If you are attending a wedding soon, they also have a boutique for party dresses and the best wedding gifts to give at a shower or wedding.

Check out the site and see what you think.  Quick warning, the boutique will by 10am CST tomorrow, so get on as quick as can to check it out before it closes (never know when the boutique will open again).  As I mentioned, you need to be invited to access the boutique, so I’ll make you a deal.  Leave a comment below requesting an invite and I will send you one!  ;

Have a wonderful weekend! :)

Dallas Wedding Venues You May Not Have Thought Of

SMU Perkins Chapel

Last Wednesday, I wrote a post regarding some tips to help you budget for your big day.  Now that you’ve got that squared away, let’s talk about something fun.  As a wedding designer, I am very interested in creating the experience of the wedding that your guests encounter.  I love to create the look and feel of an event, the tables, the lighting, etc.  This process all begins once the venue has been established.  Dallas has many wedding venues to fit different styles and personalities.  You may have already decided that you will get married in a chapel setting, like SMU’s beautiful Perkins Chapel, or your favorite hotel, but, what about having it somewhere else?  What about a museum?   A lofty, urban space like Hickory Street AnnexThe Inwood TheatreUnion Station?  Or a chic, blank canvas like 129 Leslie? In today’s post, I want to talk about having your wedding in an alternative venue, and why you might be interested.

Why look into an alternative venue?

Depending what type of bride you are and the style of your wedding, you may find lots of benefits in booking an alternative venue. Some of the benefits are:

More excitement – Your wedding will likely be in a place that your guests have never attended a wedding in, which adds more excitement for your big day – guests will be buzzing about your wedding day

Price – Hotels and banquet halls usually price their services according to the busy season, whereas alternative venues usually hold their pricing steady – also, many of these venues have built in lighting, audio/visual equipment, which can allow you to save money on these services

Interesting decor – If you have your wedding in an alternative venue, the venue will typically have strikingly awesome interiors and beautiful architecture

No sharing events with others- Typically at a hotel, there could potentially be other events going on throughout the hotel space.  With an alternative venue, you can usually secure that your wedding will be the only event at the venue.

These are just a few of the advantages associated with booking an alternative venue.  Of course, there are also disadvantages.  The staff at these venues may be a little difficult to work with, the rules and regulations of the venue may be more lengthly and costs could, in some cases, be higher than a traditional space (especially if you reserve a space that lacks any essential items – chairs, linens, audio/visual equipment, etc.)  Also, staff at these venues are not as experienced with the event planning process, and may not be able to offer much help in planning the details of your wedding.  This is why having a great wedding planner and wedding designer is key!  A planner brings the expertise of planning and the designer uses creativity to help you design a fabulous, unique way that can utilize the space.

If you are a non-traditional bride, or are looking to have your cermony or reception in a space where you can add more personality, consider checking out some of the great venues here in Dallas or in your local city.

Happy Hump Day!

Wedding Planner or Wedding Designer – What’s the Difference????

See the question marks?  That is what I get many times when people ask me what I do, and I tell them that I am a wedding planner and wedding designer.  When I tell them, they become a little puzzled and confused and ask, “Planner and Designer?  What’s the difference?”  I realized that many brides do not clearly understand the differences.  Do you want planning services, design services, both????  It can all be very confusing.  If you have ever felt this way, don’t worry! :) Let me explain to you the difference:

Wedding planners is a term most of us are pretty used to.  They serve as the project managers of your wedding.  They tap into their organizational skills to help keep you on track with your wedding planning.  They oversee the process of making sure timelines are followed, assisting with menu selections, making sure invitations go out on time, managing overall wedding budget, and lots of other details involved in planning.  They also typically coordinate the execution of the actual wedding ceremony and reception.  I think this is pretty well-known by perspective brides.

Wedding designers is a phrase that is new to many brides.  They do work in conjunction with wedding planners; however, their main objective is being totally responsible for handling all of the visuals of the event.  Designers bring the client’s vision to life, using their design expertise to create ideas for floral arrangements, dinner presentation, entertainment, floorplans, lighting effects, etc (basically everything from the entrance to the ceiling to the floor and everything in between! ).  Designers have a great eye for details and visual effects and create an overall memorable experience for you and your guests. If “A Night in Paris” is the wedding theme you desire, the designer will create the experience that allows your guests to feel like they are in Paris!

Then, there are professionals who are both Planners and Designers, which is the category that Davis Detail & Design falls into.  We have the skills to keep you organized and make sure all the i’s are dotted and t’s are crossed. We also have the eye for detail and creativity to create a unique event experience that truly reflects you.  Our brides can opt for planning services, design services or both, depending on their needs. You may check out our wedding services here.

I hope this helps erase some of the confusion between roles of wedding planners vs wedding designers.  If you need assistance with your wedding planning or wedding design, please contact us for an initial consultation and see how we can help you with your fabulous event!

Please feel free to place any questions/comments in the section below.

Happy Hump Day!

Wedding Inspiration Shoot at Hickory Street Annex, Dallas, TX

HAPPY LABOR DAY!!

Last week, I celebrated the launch of Davis Detail & Design  and promised I would share with you more from the inspiration photo shoot that provided the website pics.  This summer, I teamed up with some fabulous Dallas area wedding pros for a styled inspiration shoot to showcase our various design expertise and capabilities.  Everyone involved brought their special touches to bring my “Summer Eclectic Elegance” vision to life.  The shoot took place at Hickory Street Annex, a lovely urban Dallas wedding venue in Deep Ellum.  Special thanks to Michelle Meyer for allowing us to shoot in this awesome venue!  If you are looking for a funky, urban chic location for your wedding or next event, check them out!  I also had a blast working with Lora Ayers of Lora Ayers Photography, who did an awesome job shooting these beautiful photographs.

I wanted the colors for the shoot to capture the light, airy feeling of summer, the appropriate elegance for a mid-afternoon wedding and a little hint of modern, funky appeal. The color palette I selected for the shoot was Coral Rose, Silver Cloud and Silver Peony, which were three of  Pantone’s top colors for Spring/Summer 2011.

Here are some of the shots from the shoot:

:

Special thanks to my lovely model bride, Laura, who wore a beautiful custom made wedding gown provided by Dress My Way.  The white gown was exquisite, with its modest sweetheart neckline and adornment of real Swarovski crystals.

Vanessa Colon, owner of Deceitfully Sweet, provided us with a awesome spread of desserts.  She included delicious treats such as White Chocolate Popcorn, Banana Whoopie Pies, Cake Ball Cones and Tequila Chocolate Truffles.

Brianne Denton of Blue Lotus,  added the special touch with her wondeful floral design of the bridal bouquet and table floral decor.  The bridal bouquet she designed included a combination of white ranunculus, white peony, pink spray roses, white lisianthus and david austion juliet roses.

Doodle Dog Advertising created the lovely stationery for the shoot, including table numbers, invitations and menu cards, capturing the silver and light pink hues beautifully.

Rayven Williams with Beauty & the Blush Makeup and Styling used her hair and makeup look to make Laura look naturally stunning, and Lori Yeary with Lori Yeary Designs provided the beautiful jewelry.  Aren’t those earrings fabulous?

Beautiful centerpiece: I especially like the pink king protea (center)!

To make the look complete, I selected some textured chargers, the white and platinum china, platinum napkins, glassware, flatware and super trendy orange social glasses from Ducky Bob’s.

We had a blast shooting this design and I personally want to thank all of the fabulous wedding pros who helped bring my vision to life!
