In the words of the great Lara Casey - “Well butter my butt and call me a biscuit!” :)

Lara Casey is an awesome wedding professional and founder/creator of Southern Weddings magazine.  I wanted to give all of you brides in Dallas (and other places in the South) a heads up that the Fall issue (V4) of Southern Weddings magazine hits newsstands on October 25!  If you haven’t seen an issue of their magazine, they specialize in all things Southern.  Their magazine covers beautiful inpsiration for decor, attire (even for the guys) and alot of really true Southern traditions – matter of fact, they are currently hosting a contest where wedding pros can submit the best mason jar concepts for some SW bragging rights. Now how’s that for Southern?  :) Be sure to add this to your collection of magazines you browse as you begin planning your wedding – I’m sure you’ll find some great inspiration from it!

Right now, the ladies over at Southern Weddings are offering your chance to win a copy of the Fall issue BEFORE it hits the stands.  You can find the details here.

Do you plan to add some “Southern” flair to your wedding?  Is it in the decor, the food, the style?  I’d love to hear your comments!

Happy Monday!

Spring/Summer 2012 Wedding Inspiration Board

Hope everyone had a refreshing weekend!  Last week, I talked about my excitement for the fall season, which is officially here!  This is the season for some beautiful fall Dallas weddings (even some outdoor, if the weather is nice).  Now, I know some of you brides, you are currently thinking a season ahead of us – you are planning for your Spring or Summer Wedding.  In celebration of the Pantone Spring/Summer 2012 Color Report, and to help any of you brides who might be a little stuck on selecting a beautiful color palette, or selecting some dynamic details that reflect the bold, fun, personality of you and your groom, as promised, I designed an inspiration board for you!  When I began designing this board, I built my inspiration around these vibrant colors from the Pantone selections:

Tangerine Tango

Cabaret

I told you last week that I really liked the Tangerine Tango, remember???  :)

These colors are bold and vibrant, and are colors that can be used for a very playful, fun yet elegant, wedding.  I thought about things like the season, fun couples who crave elegance, yet want their guests to experience a fun “escape” from everyday life and the many people preparing for their annual vacations, and created this board to reflect a destination wedding inspiration, somewhere like Costa Rica, Mexico or even Hawaii or Florida.   Check out the inspiration board below, which I created using Bridal Canvas – I hope it offers you some inspiration for your wedding (or at least encourage you to take a vacation!) :)

2012 Beach Wedding Inspiration Board

This inspiration is great for a couple who love the beach, love surfing, or simply love the colors.  It could inspire you to take the wedding to one of your favorite vacation spots, or inspire you to bring you dream island destination to the “city”.  You might not be a “beach” person – you can take the colors themselves and create an over-the-top elegant spring affair – the possibilities are endless! I’m thinking of so many exciting ways to take this board and create some fabulous wedding ideas of all different styles, from traditional to eclectic.  Hopefully this helps spark some creativity for you too as you imagine your special day!

How does this board inspire you?  Does this make you think of any cool ideas for your big day?  If so, post them below.  We love hearing from you!

Make it a great week!

Wedding Planner or Wedding Designer – What’s the Difference????

See the question marks?  That is what I get many times when people ask me what I do, and I tell them that I am a wedding planner and wedding designer.  When I tell them, they become a little puzzled and confused and ask, “Planner and Designer?  What’s the difference?”  I realized that many brides do not clearly understand the differences.  Do you want planning services, design services, both????  It can all be very confusing.  If you have ever felt this way, don’t worry! :) Let me explain to you the difference:

Wedding planners is a term most of us are pretty used to.  They serve as the project managers of your wedding.  They tap into their organizational skills to help keep you on track with your wedding planning.  They oversee the process of making sure timelines are followed, assisting with menu selections, making sure invitations go out on time, managing overall wedding budget, and lots of other details involved in planning.  They also typically coordinate the execution of the actual wedding ceremony and reception.  I think this is pretty well-known by perspective brides.

Wedding designers is a phrase that is new to many brides.  They do work in conjunction with wedding planners; however, their main objective is being totally responsible for handling all of the visuals of the event.  Designers bring the client’s vision to life, using their design expertise to create ideas for floral arrangements, dinner presentation, entertainment, floorplans, lighting effects, etc (basically everything from the entrance to the ceiling to the floor and everything in between! ).  Designers have a great eye for details and visual effects and create an overall memorable experience for you and your guests. If “A Night in Paris” is the wedding theme you desire, the designer will create the experience that allows your guests to feel like they are in Paris!

Then, there are professionals who are both Planners and Designers, which is the category that Davis Detail & Design falls into.  We have the skills to keep you organized and make sure all the i’s are dotted and t’s are crossed. We also have the eye for detail and creativity to create a unique event experience that truly reflects you.  Our brides can opt for planning services, design services or both, depending on their needs. You may check out our wedding services here.

I hope this helps erase some of the confusion between roles of wedding planners vs wedding designers.  If you need assistance with your wedding planning or wedding design, please contact us for an initial consultation and see how we can help you with your fabulous event!

Please feel free to place any questions/comments in the section below.

Happy Hump Day!

Wedding Inspiration Shoot at Hickory Street Annex, Dallas, TX

HAPPY LABOR DAY!!

Last week, I celebrated the launch of Davis Detail & Design  and promised I would share with you more from the inspiration photo shoot that provided the website pics.  This summer, I teamed up with some fabulous Dallas area wedding pros for a styled inspiration shoot to showcase our various design expertise and capabilities.  Everyone involved brought their special touches to bring my “Summer Eclectic Elegance” vision to life.  The shoot took place at Hickory Street Annex, a lovely urban Dallas wedding venue in Deep Ellum.  Special thanks to Michelle Meyer for allowing us to shoot in this awesome venue!  If you are looking for a funky, urban chic location for your wedding or next event, check them out!  I also had a blast working with Lora Ayers of Lora Ayers Photography, who did an awesome job shooting these beautiful photographs.

I wanted the colors for the shoot to capture the light, airy feeling of summer, the appropriate elegance for a mid-afternoon wedding and a little hint of modern, funky appeal. The color palette I selected for the shoot was Coral Rose, Silver Cloud and Silver Peony, which were three of  Pantone’s top colors for Spring/Summer 2011.

Here are some of the shots from the shoot:

:

Special thanks to my lovely model bride, Laura, who wore a beautiful custom made wedding gown provided by Dress My Way.  The white gown was exquisite, with its modest sweetheart neckline and adornment of real Swarovski crystals.

Vanessa Colon, owner of Deceitfully Sweet, provided us with a awesome spread of desserts.  She included delicious treats such as White Chocolate Popcorn, Banana Whoopie Pies, Cake Ball Cones and Tequila Chocolate Truffles.

Brianne Denton of Blue Lotus,  added the special touch with her wondeful floral design of the bridal bouquet and table floral decor.  The bridal bouquet she designed included a combination of white ranunculus, white peony, pink spray roses, white lisianthus and david austion juliet roses.

Doodle Dog Advertising created the lovely stationery for the shoot, including table numbers, invitations and menu cards, capturing the silver and light pink hues beautifully.

Rayven Williams with Beauty & the Blush Makeup and Styling used her hair and makeup look to make Laura look naturally stunning, and Lori Yeary with Lori Yeary Designs provided the beautiful jewelry.  Aren’t those earrings fabulous?

Beautiful centerpiece: I especially like the pink king protea (center)!

To make the look complete, I selected some textured chargers, the white and platinum china, platinum napkins, glassware, flatware and super trendy orange social glasses from Ducky Bob’s.

We had a blast shooting this design and I personally want to thank all of the fabulous wedding pros who helped bring my vision to life!
